Audible Celebrates April Fool’s Day With the Encyclopaedia

By Maryann Yin

Traditionally, April Fool’s Day does not feature gifts. The Audible team decided to break with convention by releasing a digital audiobook. The executives at the audiobook publishing house recruited 19 narrators to read excerpts from the 11th edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica.

These performers shared information about 21 words. This item will free of charge to download from April 1 to May 1. Above, we’ve embedded a sample clip.

Here’s more information from the publisher’s website: “We created this enlightening journey from AUDIENCE to LITERATURE because you asked for it. You said you could listen to your favorite narrators read the phone book, bookcase assembly instructions, or a restaurant menu. With this production we’ve proven that a truly talented narrator can, in fact, take any work and make it extraordinary.”
