Amazon’s New Digital Textbook Creation Tool

By Dianna Dilworth

Amazon has unveiled a division of its self-publishing business dedicated to building out digital textbooks.

The platform is called KDP EDU, and falls under the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) business. It gives educators the tools to design digital textbooks with rich media content including and build PDFs of their course materials. The eTextbooks are compatible with the Kindle Fire, as well as iOS and Android devices and Macs and PCs.

Authors and teachers can publish these titles to the Kindle Store through KDP and earn a 70 percent royalties on sales, while maintaining the rights to their work.
