Amazon Wants You to Pay by Selfie

It may sound like something from a sci-fi novel, but paying for books by selfie may become a reality one day.

Amazon has applied for a new patent that would make it possible to pay for their purchases by taking a photo or video instead of using a password. The patent uses image-authentication technology to identify the user. As PC World points out, the technology is similar to Microsoft’s Windows Hello.

As CNBC points out, the new patent “is related to a separate patent Amazon holds for a technology that allows a device to authenticate a user via a photo or video, but not necessarily to complete a transaction.”
