Over the holiday weekend, Amazon revealed that it will buy The Book Depository, a bookselling competitor in the UK and Australia.
According to The Bookseller, Office of Fair Trading will investigate the deal, analyzing if the merger could produce “a substantial lessening of competition” in the UK book market. Interested parties can follow this link to submit commentary about the deal.
On their website, The Book Depository posted a short note about the acquisition: “The Book Depository and Amazon are aligned in wanting to ensure the best possible experience for customers. Working with Amazon we will look to continue to increase our vast selection of great titles and provide even better customer experience.”
