Texas Magazine Offends, Loses Longtime Advertiser

Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau is upset with a Texas Monthly feature by Jeff Winkler.

When the staff of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) received an advance copy of the September issue of Texas Monthly, they were expecting a positive piece about Fiesta de la Flor, the city’s new annual May music festival honoring the legacy of late Tejano music superstar Selena. Instead, they were treated to “Amor Prohibido,” a feature for which writer Jeff Winkler casts a much wider (and sometimes negative) net.

The piece arrives today both in print and online, but already, the CVB has indicated it is severing its 40-year advertising relationship with the publication.
