(VIDEO) Rolling out the Red Carpet for <i>TIME</i> 100

"][/caption] They come from all walks of life. They are actors, musicians, world leaders, and sports figures--and that just scratches the surface. Time Magazine held its annual 100 Most Influential People in the World gala last night at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. While more than half of the honorees were unable to attend, there was still no shortage of stars lighting the red carpet. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was on the guest list, and although she failed to take the stroll, a Homeland Security officer complete with a sniffing dog canvassed the confines. Pres. Barack Obama was chosen in the magazine's Leaders category, along with the presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Rommey. Both were, not surprisingly, no shows. Romney was winning primaries in the Northeast, while Obama was appearing on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" from North Carolina. NBC's Matt Lauer was listed among a group of Icons. Lauer recently signed a contract extension with the Today show at a reported $25 million per year. FishbowlNY chatted with "Today" show third hour co-host Savannah Guthrie who praised her friend and colleague. More video clips from the red carpet after the jump... The double-issue Time 100 that hit newsstands last week, breaks down the Most Influential into several categories. White hot singer Adele was chosen for the "breakouts" category. Few singers have experienced a breakout like the Londoner did last year with her 21, one of the top selling albums of 2011. Another artist on the list is Raphael Saadiq. Although also on the "Breakouts" list, this R&B star is no overnight sensation. The throwback soulster, Saadiq has been churning out songs since the mid 1980s. Rihanna is a hugely successful Pop/R&B singer, who looked stunning in a long, pink gown. She didn't expect to join the Most Influential. "This is a list that you just never, ever think you're going to be a part of," Rihanna says. "You just always admire the people who are in it." Knicks rookie phenom Jeremy Lin was included in the Time 100. In a few short months, his on-court, late-game heroics propelled him to a media favorite and beacon for Asian-Americans. Veteran actress Mia Farrow told FishbowlNY that she was excited to see Lin "scraping the ceiling." The eclectic Farrow was looking forward to meeting other Time 100 recipients as well. "There are too many to count, and most of them are in the field of science and innovation for me," Farrow says. "And I wonder if I'll know which ones they are." [caption id="attachment_58835" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Time 100 honorees Stephen Colbert and Timothy Cardinal Dolan."][/caption] But back to her roots, Farrow, who has appeared in dozens of films, was proud of the many actors on the list, especially Oscar-nominated Viola Davis. "[She] is always amazing," Farrow says. "Every single time she steps out, the woman is amazing!" Davis' The Help co-star Jessica Chastain was part of this year's group, along with Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton. Also part of this year's mix of talent, newly-installed Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report. We also caught up with 2008 Time 100 honoree, Dr. Mehmet Oz, whose daily syndicated medical show airs on WNYW/Channel 5.
