Judge Rules Against Albany Times-Union In Layoff Dispute

The Albany Times-Union broke the law when it laid off eleven employees while negotiating layoff criteria, a judge ruled last week.

The Albany Newspaper Guild reports that Administrative Law Judge Mark Carissimi ordered the Times-Union to return the 11 affected employees to their jobs or find new jobs for them, and to resume negotiations with the guild.

After only two days of bargaining over layoff criteria, the newspaper guild says, the Times-Union “removed employees from their jobs last July.
