FCC Chair on Net Neutrality Vote: 'Today is the proudest day of my public policy life.'

“Today, after a decade of debate and an open, robust, year-long process we finally have legal, sustainable rules to ensure the Internet stays fast, fair and open,” said Chairman Wheeler in a press conference following the vote.

This vote preserves for now the principle of net neutrality, the idea that Internet service providers should not be able to provide preferential treatment, such as Internet fast lanes to those willing to pay for it, or slow down or block the sites of those who are not willing to pay for faster speeds.
