Zola: The wedding registry for 'modern couples' on iOS

Zola has announced the launch of its wedding registry platform on iPhone, which works to help ‘modern couples’ receive the best gifts possible from friends and family, by combining every store, and every item, into one app. The app offers a catalog view of over 3,000 items, but also supports the addition of unlimited items by users themselves. Zola users register an account for themselves and their fiancé, and can browse thousands of items from multiple high-end brands, including Kitchenaid, Cuisinart, Mauviel and many others. The app categorizes items based on use, like kitchen items or home decorations, and also supports “experiences,” like cooking or fitness classes or romantic getaways. The app’s Blender feature supports browsing individual, randomized items, one-by-one, with users swiping right to add the item to their registry, or swiping left to skip it. Elsewhere, users can scan barcodes or take photos of other items they’d like to add to their registry, and can input desired quantities and more. Each item can be customized with a note to wedding guests as to why these items are important, all in an effort to make the gifting process more personal for both guests and the bride and groom. “Couples today expect their wedding registry experience to be easy to set up, fun to interact with, and accessible from anywhere,” says Shan-Lyn Ma, Co-founder and CEO of Zola. “Zola for iPhone leverages the modern design and device capabilities our couples expect from their favorite apps. We are making the experience of adding gifts to wedding registries as exciting as it should be – whether our couple is on their couch swiping things onto their registry via Blender, or out in the world, adding things to their registry via the barcode scanner.” Since the app’s launch in October 2013, over 10,000 couples have created a registry, with growth accelerating each month. The app currently supports “experience” items in just four cities, including New York City, but Zola hopes to expand to at least four more in the next six months.
