As you’re wandering the streets today, looking for 2-for-1 deals on those last-minute gifts, you’ll pay a little more attention to those signs claiming as much once you read KT Meaney’s article on Speak Up. “The Zign is on the Wall” is a glorious celebration of the hand-painted signage of Chicago, but that’s not all. She’s used the blog format to its utmost capability, with clever rollovers and an unfolding, imaginary conversation with Jan Tschichold, and she footnoted her findings in a manner which would make David Foster Wallace grin with delight. It will change the way you read your city. And you, too, might start looking up to the man with the paintbrush.
