YouTube co-founders Are Working on a Magazine Publishing Service Called Zeen (Fusible)
It looks like you’ll soon be able to discover and create “beautiful” magazines online. YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, who now run AVOS, posted a “Coming Soon” page on the website Zeen (a take on the word zine, which commonly refers to a narrowly focused self-published magazine). The Next Web The Privacy Policy page indicates that multimedia sharing will be a core part of the service and suggests that there will be a browser bookmarklet available. VentureBeat For now, though, we have relatively few details about how Zeen will work and what ‘zines will look like. You can go to the app’s landing page now to reserve a username and connect the account to an email address, Facebook identity or Twitter account. Business Insider After registering, users get an email to confirm their address, but it becomes a waiting game after that to see how Zeen works and what it’s all about.

Sequoia Set to Lead $500M Valuation Round for Instagram (AllThingsD)
The maker of the fast-growing photo-sharing app, which just made its way to Android, is set to receive $50 million at a $500 million valuation, the sources said. Others joining the round could include DST Global. SocialTimes The mobile app had 30 million users on the iPhone when Instagram finally made its way to the Android market on April 3. The Android app got over one million downloads overnight. PetaPixel Sequoia Capital is the same firm that funded the likes of Apple, Google, YouTube, PayPal, Oracle and Yahoo!.

Rdio is Working on Pandora-like Radio Functionality (GigaOM)
The goal was to “become more like Pandora,” Rdio VP of product Malthe Sigurdsson told us, with one key difference: Rdio’s catalog is substantially bigger than what Pandora is currently offering its listeners. Pandora is thought to have about one million tracks in its catalog. Rdio on the other hand boasts a catalog of more than 15 million tracks. Electronista It will build upon the currently available playlists that can be created based on an artist or groupings of tracks from their friends.

Etsy Hacker Grants: Supporting Women in Technology (Etsy Blog)
Etsy is announcing a new scholarship and sponsorship program for women in technology: we’ll be hosting the summer 2012 session of Hacker School in the Etsy headquarters, and we’re providing 10 Etsy Hacker Grants of $5,000 each — a total of $50,000 — to women who want to join but need financial support to do so. Mashable The initiative should also improve the male-to-female ratio within the developer program. Since the Hacker School’s launch in July 2011, it has only had one female participant.
