YouTube Kids Launches #ReadAlong Campaign to Encourage Kids to Read

The campaign will feature reading-related content from global book publishers, Universal Studios and more

YouTube Kids partnered with global book publishers HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and National Geographic Kids to launch a global initiative called #ReadAlong month. Taking place throughout the month of June, the program is designed to help young viewers learn to read and show them why reading is fun.

As part of this campaign, each publisher will share a series of reading-related videos for children. For instance, HarperCollins has created a new Kid Critic video series, featuring book reviews for children, by children. And Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will publish a playlist of fairy-tale videos containing screen text and voiceovers, so children can listen and read along as videos play.

In addition to content from publishers, the #ReadAlong campaign will include a playlist from Universal Studios starring the Minions, as well as a special playlist of videos featuring big names such as National Football League player Martellus Bennett.

Finally, the YouTube Kids app will feature exclusive content from multiple creators, including PINKFONG and Toycantando.
