Your Twitter Weekend Homework: Update Your Bio

How long has it been since you changed your Twitter bio to reflect a new job, new interests, or new reasons for being on Twitter? In fact, how long has it been since you've even read your Twitter bio? This weekend, instead of clicking through old photos on Facebook, why don't you inject a little fun productivity into your Saturday afternoon and update your Twitter bio? Your bio is one of the most important areas of your Twitter profile. It lets your followers know who you are and what you have to offer. It also is a prime location for branding and visibility on Twitter. However, you only have 160 characters to work with in your bio. That's a little more than a tweet, but not much. I recommend you include a link to a blog, website or another profile in your bio as well, for those followers who want to get to know you beyond Twitter. This will give your followers a way to connect with you off Twitter, and show that you've got other things on the go besides all that link-sharing you're doing. If you haven't updated your bio in a few months, now's the time to do it. Why? Because you want your bio to reflect you, at this point in time. If you bio says something about you being an undergrad student but you graduated in the fall, you'll want to change it. If you mention that you're a mother of twin 3-year-olds and they're now 4 and a half, change it. While you might have a relatively "evergreen" bio - meaning it applicable in almost any time or place - it's still a good idea to give it a read-through and see if there is some sprucing up you can do.
