You Want Lightman’s Job?

From an internal email sent to Hartford Courant staff, obtained by FishbowlDC (earlier):

With David Lightman’s departure, I will be filling the opening in our Washington bureau as soon as possible. In addition to reporting on the Connecticut delegation, the Washington reporter will have the challenge of explaining breaking and developing stories through a Connecticut and/or regional lens — without succumbing to parochialism. A sophisticated understanding of national issues is a must. The reporter must have a passion for politics, a deep interest in government — and, above all, a keen appreciation of the profound impact that government and politics have on families and individuals. Applicants should have a minimum of five years’ reporting experience and strong writing and reporting skills. The job demands frequent filing of stories for the paper, usually daily filing to courant.com, and regular contributions to The Swamp, the Tribune’s communal political web site. Tell me what you would bring to our vital coverage of Washington. We will be advertising outside the Courant but will be giving a deep look at in-house candidates. Please let me know of your interest in the position by Monday, Oct. 8.
