Ahead of International Women’s Day March 8, Yelp added the ability for users to search for businesses that are owned by women.

Yelp introduced the ability for businesses to mark that they are “women-owned” last March. Since then, over 72,000 businesses in the U.S. have added this tag to their page on the business directory and crowdsourced review forum.

Emily Washcovick, manager of local business outreach at Yelp, said in a blog post that there has been a 20% increase in mentions of women-owned businesses in U.S. reviews since one year ago.

She added that when looking at open U.S. businesses with a minimum of five reviews, those that were marked as being owned by women had higher average ratings than those that weren’t.

In honor of Women’s History Month, Yelp also highlighted 100 of the top women-owned businesses in the U.S., with the rankings determined by looking at each business’ number of reviews and average rating. In order to highlight businesses across the country, Yelp limited each state to two entries on the list.
