Earlier this week we pointed you to the news that WTSP in Tampa-St. Petersburg had hired Jim Van Fleet to partially replace the station’s departing weather team. Not two days later has WTSP made its second hire: Mark Collins, who’s been working part-time at WTSP while still working at WJXT in nearby-ish Jacksonville.
Eric Deggans of TampaBay.com says that there’s still one forecasting job left, though “WTSP has worked fast to announce its new team.” Also, Lorena Rabago, newly hired to cover traffic and entertainment, is studying meteorology.
Collins has 12 years experience as a producer, at WJXT in Jacksonville, in Miami, and at a statewide news channel headquartered in Tallahassee. He says that he likes unpredictability wherever it’s found, not just in the weather: “I thrive on discovering new experiences, exploring new locations, and sampling exotic food,” he said.
