World Series: Boston Red Sox dominate St. Louis Cardinals in Facebook buzz

The Boston Red Sox took Game 1 of the World Series over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, but the Red Sox have also been winning the battle on Facebook. New numbers from the social network show that the Red Sox out-buzzed the Cardinals 62 percent to 38 percent in terms of Facebook interactions.

PageData shows that as of 10:45 a.m. PST, the Red Sox official Facebook page has added more than 12,500 fans today.

Talk about the Red Sox generated more than 5 million interactions from more than 2.6 million people on the Facebook platform. Men aged 25 to 34 were the most active last night.

According to Facebook, here are the top 5 demographics who were talking about the World Series on Wednesday night:

  • Men 35-44
  • Women 25-34
  • Women 35-44
  • Men 18-24

Naturally, the two teams’ home states (Massachusetts and Missouri) were responsible for most of the Facebook discussion, but Facebook users in Texas and Illinois were also actively posting about the game. Here’s a list of the top 10 states, in terms of World Series Facebook buzz:
