Did you know that 3.6 billion people are expected to watch the 2014 World Cup, and that $5.7 billion will be spent on sponsorships and ads?

Facebook estimates that 500 million of its 1.28 billion users are football fans, with 62 percent of those using Facebook each and every day. Twitter expects 350,000 tweets per day about the World Cup*, with the UK and Ireland likely to be the top tweeting countries around the #WorldCup hashtag.

As for brands, both Adidas and Coca Cola have major campaigns, and Colombian pop star Shakira is on track to have the biggest hit of the World Cup, albeit unofficially.
