WSJ Won’t Call Trump’s Lies ‘Lies’

A lie is a lie is a lie.

During an interview on Meet The Press, Wall Street Journal editor Gerard Baker said he wanted to be “careful” about using the word “lie” to describe Donald Trump’s many, never-ending lies.

“I’d be careful about using the word ‘lie,’ said Baker. “‘Lie’ implies much more than just saying something that’s false. It implies a deliberate intent to mislead.” Yes. Exactly. And that’s what Trump does. All the time.

“I think it’s then up to the reader to make up their own mind to say, ‘This is what Donald Trump says,” continued Baker. “This is what a reliable, trustworthy news organization reports. And you know what? I don’t think that’s true.’”

The problem is that readers don’t know what’s true. Most people are too lazy to read beyond a headline and/or just aren’t that smart. Tim Allen is still on TV for god’s sake.

Baker is obviously looking to garner favoritism and access to Trump by promising to allow him to lie. It’s just a damn shame and completely embarrassing. Journalists shouldn’t hide behind nuance when the most powerful man in the country lies.
