Wizarding World Enters Social Media with Pottermore

As the video continued to roll, Rowling told us she has secrets she’s been “hoarding for years about the world of Harry Potter” and through the interactive capabilities of social media the secrets will be shaped and influenced by the readers.

For the past week, Harry Potter fans heard that J.K. Rowling will be announcing her new innovative idea concerning the latest adventure in the Harry Potter franchise. Owls stood guard at the YouTube website while the clock counted down to the moment the author would make her official announcement, promising us more of the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

Speculations were forming as the hours dwindled down. The Guardian reported Pottermore is a scavenger hunt that begins and ends up in the real world. Other reports mentioned the trademark filing of Pottermore as a social media, interactive company.

This morning right on time at 7AM EST the YouTube video rolled and speculations were thrown aside as Rowling introduced us to Pottermore, “…built impart by you, the reader…you will rediscover stories…”

In under just two minutes, Rowling makes a promise to her dedicated fans that the Harry Potter stories will not be closed after the July premiere of Deathly Hallows Part 2. Rowling will tell the story again and again through a very rare and unique reading experience of Pottermore, an interactive concept yet to be fully materialized in the social media world. She promises eBooks and untold stories.

As the video continued to roll, Rowling told us she has secrets she’s been “hoarding for years about the world of Harry Potter” and through the interactive capabilities of social media the secrets will be shaped and influenced by the readers.

As a staunch Harry Potter fan who has tickets to the IMAX midnight run of HP 7 Part 2, I say let’s lift our butterbeers and give three cheers to Rowling. What a brilliant idea and a lucrative one, too!
