Wikipedia Dives Into Video

Wikipedia is expanding its video efforts, largely due to the recent introduction of Firefox 3.5 and the use of Flash-like, open-source program Ogg Theora.

The site will roll out server-side transcoding technology, a new video player and a set of collaborative editing tools that will allow community members to amend videos, all over the next few months, according to Beet.TV.

Wikimedia Foundation deputy director Erik Moller told Beet.TV Wikipedia is working on a sophisticated video player with full-screen, share and other standard functions.
