WhatsApp Is Testing Further Changes to the Ways Users Can Forward Messages

Users in India forward more messages, photos and videos than in any other country

WhatsApp continues to tweak its forwarding features with an eye toward user safety.

The Facebook-owned messaging application announced last week that it would begin labeling messages that were forwarded from other people, saying, “This extra context will help make one-on-one and group chats easier to follow. It also helps you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent or if it originally came from someone else.”

WhatsApp announced in a blog post Thursday that it is conducting two related tests: a way to limit forwarding that would potentially be rolled out to all users, and a lower limit of five simultaneous chats in India, where it said people forward more messages, photos and videos than in any other country in the world.

The quick forward button next to media messages will also be removed for users who are part of the test.
