WhatsApp Begins Rolling Out the Ability to Have Up to 8 People on Video Calls

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed the new feature last week

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said last Friday that video calls via WhatsApp would be expanded to eight people from four, and that feature began rolling out Tuesday.

WhatsApp users wishing to use the new participant limit for video calls should have the latest version of the messaging application installed.

WhatsApp said in a blog post that people are spending an average of 15 billion minutes globally on calls via its app every day, far more than pre-coronavirus-pandemic numbers.

The app added that group calling was built in a way to accommodate as many users as possible, including those with poor connectivity or older devices, and all calls are protected via end-to-end encryption.
