Washington Post Co. Says New Government Regulation Could Hurt Its Business

In response to government rule changes that could hamper its moneymaking Kaplan education business, The Washington Post Co. (WPO) said today that some of its schools would not meet new standards set out by the Department of Education.

The Department of Education is attempting to further regulate schools like those under the Kaplan brand, which alledly saddle students with a great deal of debt without readying them for the workplace.

Said the Post Co.:

The Company’s public comments will include, among other technical concerns, its belief that the currently proposed Gainful Employment NPRM is drafted in such a manner that it disproportionately impacts schools with students from low socio-economic backgrounds.
