LEGO The Lord of the Rings is the latest LEGO console title to be given a mobile treatment, as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced the launch of the game on iOS devices. The game allows players to play through the storyline of the Tolkien trilogy, meeting dozens of familiar characters along the way.

Developed by TT Games, LEGO The Lord of the Rings allows players to enter the shoes of Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas and many more as they work to destroy The One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom.

In addition to completing the story-based levels, players can collect over 90 playable characters (including both heroes and villains) and use those characters to unlock special items, like the Light of Earendil, Elven Rope, powerful swords, bows and more.

As with other LEGO-based video games, each character here as a specific skill-set, so the more players unlock, the more special areas they’ll be able to access, and the more tools they can collect. Legolas, for instance, can use his bow to shoot at aerial targets, while Gandalf can light dark areas via magic.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings supports two control styles, “classic” and “touch screen,” to allow users to find the play-style that suits them best. The game also supports an achievement list thanks to Game Center integration.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings is available to download for $4.99 on iOS. It’s compatible with iOS 6 or later, and requires 3GB of available space when downloaded over wifi. Check back soon to follow the game on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
