W Magazine Names New Editor

Stefano Tonchi was named editor of W magazine to succeed Condé Nast vet Patrick McCarthy, who is stepping down at the end of the year.

The changing of the guard occurs as Condé Nast returns the oversized luxury fashion title to Condé Nast’s glamorous consumer magazine stable from the lower-profile B2B Fairchild Fashion Group.

Tonchi was most recently editor of T: The New York Times Style Magazine, which he created in 2004 after serving as the style editor of the Times’ Sunday magazine.
