Vox Promotes Lauren Williams to Executive Editor, Makes Additional Staffing Moves

Laura McGann is upped to editorial director and Jim Tankersley joins from The Washington Post.

In a note to staff posted on Vox, founder and editor in chief Ezra Klein announced the promotion Lauren Williams to executive editor. Williams, who had been managing editor, “will be focusing on our overall editorial strategy, direction and culture,” writes Klein.

Among those reporting to Williams is Laura McGann, who moves into a new role, for herself and the publication, as editorial director. McGann, who had been deputy managing editor for policy and politics, will oversee the site’s editorial sections and be “responsible for honing the overall voice of the newsroom and making sure we’re covering the most important stories of the day creatively [and] aggressively,” write Klein.
