Visitors to UAE Will Not be Allowed to Use BlackBerry Phones for Messaging

On Monday I noted the BBC News item about:

Saudi Arabia & UAE Plan to Ban Some BlackBerry Network Functions

The Washington Post adds a new wrinkle to this development mobile phone story:

UAE crackdown on BlackBerry services to extend to foreign visitors

People bringing in BlackBerry phones from outside of the UAE will be allowed to use them for voice calls. However, email, instant messaging, and other Internet access will not be allowed.

I guess a lot of frequent travelers to the UAE will be checking about exchanging their BlackBerry for an Android or iPhone smartphone soon.
