US Government Is 1984ing Our Job Stats?

The number of open positions in the country fell 200,000 in July to 2.4 million, for a drop of .1 to 1.8 percent open, but the Bureau of Labor Statistics today called the number “little changed.”

If job openings peaked at 3.4 percent (which they did in June 07), then a .1 percent drop seems a little more significant.

As always, gains were in healthcare and hospitality; the government’s openings and hires remained fairly steady.
