The Vegas Golden Knights dominated Facebook and Twitter among National Hockey League teams in January, while Instagram was the domain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to social marketing firm Unmetric.

The second-year club led Facebook and Twitter in growth and engagement for the month, also topping Twitter in likes and comments.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs led Instagram in engagement, likes and comments.

Unmetric examined its cross-channel reports for all 31 NHL teams from Jan. 1 through 31, and it also found that:

  • There was no change among the leaders in audience size for the three social networks, with the Chicago Blackhawks atop Facebook and Twitter, while the Pittsburgh Penguins topped Instagram.
  • The Carolina Hurricanes led Instagram in growth for January.
  • The Montreal Canadiens had the most posts on Facebook during the month, while the Calgary Flames were the top tweeters, and the most prolific NHL team on Instagram was the San Jose Sharks.
  • The Penguins tallied the most likes on Facebook, while the Edmonton Oilers drew the most comments.
