A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the change to TechCrunch, saying:

The goal of this change is to help people curate their News Feed and see more of the content that they care about.

TechCrunch believes Facebook is trying to bring its language more in line with that of Instagram and Twitter, on which follow is a staple.
