Unemployed Workers Crash Texas' Computer Systems
Jobless claims numbered so many last weekend in Texas that workers phoning in to get their benefits on Sunday and Monday were told to come back later. The Texas Workforce Commission’s recorded phone message said, simply, “Our computer system is temporarily not available.” Meanwhile, the commission’s Web site was also “temporarily unavailable.”
A spokeswoman for the commission said that TWC has added hundreds of phone lines and call center workers, but it’s not enough.
