U.K. Office Of Fair Trading Investigates Facebook’s Acquisition Of Instagram

Facebook’s $1 billion acquisition of photo-sharing app Instagram is coming under scrutiny in the U.K., as competition regulator the Office of Fair Trading expressed concerns that the social network might prevent Instagram users from uploading photos to other sites, or restrict similar applications’ ability to upload photos to Facebook.

The Guardian reported that OFT set a July 5 deadline for interested parties to submit comments, and it will then determine by Aug. 23 whether it has any jurisdiction over the transaction, and whether there is suitable cause for an investigation by the U.K.
