Twitter Went to the North During the NBA Finals

The champion Toronto Raptors heated up the social network

The Toronto Raptors not only took home the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy after besting the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 National Basketball Association Finals, but the North reigned on Twitter, too.

Twitter said that during the NBA Finals, @Raptors had 55% more mentions than @Warriors, while #WeTheNorth pulverized #DubNation, with 385% more mentions on the social network.

The five top overall players in terms of mentions during the Finals were:

  1. Kevin Durant
  2. Stephen Curry
  3. Kawhi Leonard
  4. Klay Thompson
  5. Kyle Lowry

And the top five Raptors were:

  1. Leonard
  2. Lowry
  3. Fred Van Vleet
  4. Pascal Siakim
  5. Serge Ibaka

The six games ranked by tweet volume were:

  1. Game six
  2. Game five
  3. Game one
  4. Game four
  5. Game three
  6. Game two

And the Raptors games with the most #WeTheNorth mentions all-time were:

  1. Game six of the NBA Finals (win versus Warriors)
  2. Game six of the Eastern Conference Finals (win versus the Milwaukee Bucks)
  3. Game four of the NBA Finals (win versus Warriors)
  4. Game one of the NBA Finals (win versus Warriors)

Twitter said the eight most-tweeted-about games in the history of the franchise were all played since May 12 of this year.
