Twitter To Guarantee Authenticity

Over the weekend Twitter founder Biz Stone announced the microblogging site would be offering a new feature called “Verified Accounts” for famous individuals and institutions. These accounts will have a special seal indicating authenticity. Our sister blog BayNewser fills us in:

“The experiment will begin with public officials, public agencies, famous artists, athletes, and other well known individuals at risk of impersonation,” wrote Stone on the company blog.

The way it will work, reports Mashable, is that Twitter will examine whether an “official channel of the person in question links to his or her Twitter account from a place like an official website.”
