Twitter Is 7 Years Old Today – Happy Birthday Twitter!

Today, Twitter celebrates its 7th birthday.

Yep, seven years ago, on March 21, 2006, co-founder Jack Dorsey sent the first-tweet and Twitter was born.

Jack’s tweet started something, although at the time he and fellow co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams really no idea what that was, what it could be, or what it would eventually become.

Indeed, back then, Twitter was very different, evolving from a very simple idea that was originally know as…

… which then became Twttr…

… before finally evolving into the micro-blogging social platform that we know and love today.

Over on the official blog, Twitter, which now has more than 200 million users sending over 400 million tweets each and every day, has put together another one of those makes-you-feel-all-warm-and-fuzzy-inside videos that takes a look back at key moments from Twitter’s even years, including the first use of the hashtag and the retweet (2007), Twitter’s launch in Japan (2008), the Hudson river disaster (2009), Oprah’s arrival (2010, which gave Hollywood credibility to Twitter and triggered a huge arrival of other A-listers), the first tweet from space, Twitter’s growing importance as a communication tool during world events, and more.
