Twitter Donates $1 Million to CPJ, IWMF to Protect Media During Coronavirus Pandemic

‘Right now, every journalist is a Covid-19 journalist’

“Right now, every journalist is a Covid-19 journalist,” Twitter legal, policy and trust and safety lead Vijaya Gadde said in a blog post explaining the social network’s donation of $1 million to be evenly distributed between the Committee to Protect Journalists and the International Women’s Media Foundation.

The funds will be used to ensure that the two organizations can continue their efforts while facing new economic strains and maintain their support of journalists.

Gadde wrote, “Their shared efforts to advocate for the rights of vulnerable reporters and to guarantee an equal share of voice for women in the industry has never been more relevant or important.”

CPJ executive director Joel Simon said in the blog post, “We are grateful for Twitter’s generous support.
