Twitter Buying TweetDeck: Are TweetDeck’s iPhone & Android Apps Toast?

TechCrunch reports that:

Twitter To Buy TweetDeck For $40 Million – $50 Million

TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington reports that this purchase is a defensive one against UberMedia which owns UberSocial for BlackBerry (and iPhone), Twidroyd for Android and Echofon for iPhone. Echofon is also available for the Mac and as a addon for the Firefox browser.

The question is: What will Twitter do now that it owns both Tweetie (the source of the official Twitter for iPhone app) and TweetDeck which has its own iPhone Twitter app. Twitter will presumably continue supporting TweetDeck’s Adobe AIR based desktop app which seems to be the desktop client of choice for Twitter power users. But, will Twitter keep or kill TweetDeck’s iPhone and Android apps since they are in the same space as Twitter’s current mobile apps?
