Twitter acquired Chroma Labs, a San Mateo, Calif.-based developer of tools for short-form video and photo creation.

The social network said the team from Chroma Labs will join its product, design and engineering teams and help develop more expressive ways for people to express themselves during Twitter conversations.

Twitter added that the acquisition fits its goal of acquiring talent to help it better serve the public conversation, via acquisitions, recruiting, acqui-hires and team hires.

According to mobile insights provider Sensor Tower, roughly 615,000 people installed Chroma Labs’ Chroma Stories application, with about 37,000 of them (around 6% of the total) in the U.S.
