Top Eleven and SimCity Social are this week’s gainer and loser among August’s Top 25 Facebook games

It’s been a week since we posted the Top 25 Facebook games of August, so it’s now time to look at how their traffic is doing. We’re a day late with this week’s list, but next week should see our normal Thursday evaluations return.

Starting at No. 25 on this month’s list, we’ll count down and examine the traffic of six or seven games each week for the rest of the month. We’re examining titles’ daily active users, which is the best way to measure an app’s core audience. By looking at these numbers, we’ll predict how a game’s position will move on next month’s Top 25 list.

For this week, we’ll check out No. 25 through No. 20.

25. Top Eleven – Be a Football Manager

Even though Nordeus’s Top Eleven – Be a Football Manager is at the bottom of our Top 25 Facebook games list, the title is enjoying its best traffic ever. Since August 1, Top Eleven’s hit a new high point of 1.8 million DAU, though it’s fallen down to 1.7 million since then. Since it launched in May 2010, the game’s been steadily bringing in a growing number of users. Since January, though, the traffic gain’s been increasing much faster than in the past and the game’s grown from 1 million DAU to its current levels. If Top Eleven sees some more dramatic traffic boosts like this, it might be closer to the No. 20 spot next month.

T23. SimCity Social

EA’s SimCity Social is already beginning to drop, down from 1.7 million DAU at the start of the month to 1.4 million. The game launched at the end of June and hit a peak of 1.8 million DAU in late July before beginning to see its numbers start to gradually decline. EA’s “Sim” franchise has proven successful on Facebook before, with The Sims Social seeing a high point of 11.3 million DAU last year, so it’s possible this may just be a temporary lull. That said, if SimCity Social doesn’t start gaining traffic again, it might drop off next month’s Top 25 list entirely.

T23. Lost Bubble

Peak Games is down a little since the start of the month from its starting point of 1.7 million DAU. Although the game dropped as far down as 1.5 million DAU, it’s back up to 1.6 million. In June, Lost Bubble peaked with 1.8 million DAU, and it’s hovered near and returned to this point a few times since then. The past two months don’t show a pattern indicating Lost Bubble is likely to make any significant gains and if the game stays at this point, it’s entirely possible that it may fall a couple of spaces on next month’s list.

22. Angry Birds Friends

Rovio’s Angry Birds Friends continues to decline, down from 1.9 million DAU to 1.8 million. The game’s been steadily losing traffic since it hit its peak point of 3.4 million DAU in April, though the drops have been slowing down over the past few weeks. Case in point: August’s starting traffic level was the exact same as July’s. Based on this pattern though, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Angry Birds Friends drop a another 100,000 DAU before the end of the month, which would knock it down by a couple of spots on September’s Top 25 list.

T20. Slotomania

Playtika’s Slotomania is holding steady at 2 million DAU, aside from a temporary drop to 1.9 million. The game’s traffic dropped to this level after peaking in June with 2.1 million DAU. Slotomania launched in late 2010 and saw strong, steady growth through 2011, but the traffic increases started coming fewer and further between by the end of the year; in January, the game was at 1.7 million DAU. Slotomania could very well move up to 2.1 million before the end of the month, but it’s unlikely that gain will change its positioning much in September.
