Top Communications Exec Elliot Schrage Is Leaving Facebook

He joined the social network from Google in May 2008

Facebook vice president of communications and public policy Elliot Schrage announced that he is leaving the company.

Schrage, who celebrated his 10-year anniversary with the social network last month, will remain with Facebook until a replacement is named, a spokesperson said, after which he will serve as an advisor to CEO Mark Zuckerberg and chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg.

Schrage joined Facebook in May 2008 after serving as vp of global communications and public affairs at Google.

Kara Swisher and Kurt Wagner of Recode reported that vp of global communications and public affairs Caryn Marooney and vp of communications for WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger Rachel Whetstone will lead the communications team in the interim, while vp of global public policy Joel Kaplan will helm the policy side of things.
