But it pales in comparison to some of the other things that take place on the internet every sixty seconds. 2. Travel and tourism depends heavily on the use of word-of-mouth to spread opinions and recommendations, and social platforms such as Twitter and Facebook allow customers to easily share tips and suggestions, which can be enormously valuable when positive. Some 92 percent of consumers said that they trusted earned media, which includes recommendations from friends and family members, more than any other form of advertising. 3. Strategic Tweeting: Fewer Hashtags And Tweeting When People Are Busiest [STUDY] It might sound counter-intuitive, but a new study of some of the top brands on Twitter shows that tweeting with fewer hashtags and sending your tweets when people are busy is part of an effective Twitter strategy. 4. Twitter Facts And Figures For Businesses And Brands [INFOGRAPHIC] Did you know that a recent survey showed that people are 25 percent more likely to buy a product that they would be proud to own if it has social media buttons next to it? Conversely, the same study revealed that users are 25 percent less likely to buy an embarrassing product if it’s placed anywhere near a social sharing tool. Of course, this conflict presents something of a problem for brands. Used well, social media can empower businesses of all shapes and sizes, allowing them to reach vast audiences and shift huge amounts of product. The survey polled more than 1,000 13-17 year-olds around the U.S. – the first generation to grow up on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook – and discovered that while 90 percent of them have used social media, it’s not been without its pitfalls. 10. Advanced Twitter Listening Tip: Track More Than Just Your Mentions Twitter is as much – and maybe more – about listening as it is about broadcasting.
