Tools Round Up: Facebook and Skype; Radian6 and Twitter; JT and MySpace

Facebook has announced a partnership with Skype that will bring video calling to the social network’s 750 million users. Microsoft is in the process of acquiring Skype for $8.5 billion and has been a Facebook partner for some time. Today’s announcement also included a new chat design and the addition of group chats. Perhaps you heard that the President hosted a Twitter Townhall today? Radian6 will be working with Twitter to analyze those tweets. Pre-townhall research conducted by Radian6 yielded a number of findings, like national security and financial security are two topics that drive tweets. Additional findings are available here.

The Content Marketing Institute and PR Newswire have partnered to launch a website focused on content marketing. The Content Marketing Channel will feature 10 to 15 stories per day and have a daily newsletter.

More Twitter news: The microblogging site has acquired BackType, a social analytics platform. BackType recently launched BackTweets Pro, a tool directed at marketers and publishers to help with measurement and monitoring. [via Mashable]

Communications firm Fenton has launched the first of three social media guides planned for the summer. Called Short & Sweet: The Whys and Hows of Twitter,” the guide is available here, and is geared towards communicators that work with nonprofits and organizations with CSR concerns. The remaining two are “The Fenton Metrics” in July and August focused on measurement, and “How to Be a Media DJ” discussing interactivity in September.

To make good out of his new investment, Justin Timberlake is thinking about a Myspace talent contest, according to his manager Johnny Wright. There are already plans in the works to relaunch Myspace with a focus on new and emerging musicians. [via CNN]
