Tom Leykis Sells Radio Show Ad on eBay

Is this the new (advertising) normal?

Tom Leykis, preparing for a return to the airwaves April 2 under the corporate moniker of The New Normal Network, recently reserved the first ad slot for a top eBay bidder. On Friday, after 29 bids, the auction closed.

Leykis tells FishbowlLA the winning bidder was tech exec Noah Shanok, chairman of Stitcher Inc. Also a former member of StubHub and J.P. Morgan Chase, Shanok paid $1,225.00 for the privilege of top-lining the inaugural Leykis broadcast.

“The winning bid, in my view, proves what I have always believed,” says Leykis, “which is that the reason that some people say that Internet content cannot be monetized is because they try to sell advertising for new platforms the same way it’s sold in so-called “old media.”
