To Sheen Or Not To Sheen: Are You Still High On The Buzz?

Is there such a thing as too much Winning? How long can Charlie keep the buzz going, and am I the only one who's starting to get a little Sheened out?

It seems as though Charlie Sheen might really be the world’s biggest winner. The Vatican warlock assassin flew past the 2 million Twitter follower mark this morning at record breaking speed, has been trending since his first tweet five days ago, spawned a plethora of YouTube parodies and tributes, gave birth to a whole new glossary of catch phrases, from “Winning!” to “Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA”, and even started his own livestream show on Ustream, Sheen’s-Korner, claiming “You’re either in Sheen’s-Korner or you’re with the trolls”. But is there such a thing as too much Winning? How long can Charlie keep the buzz going, and am I the only one who’s starting to get a little Sheened out?

For those of you that haven’t been following the Sheen story (and I don’t think there are many of you out there), it all started when Sheen bad-mouthed Chuck Lorre, the series creator of ‘2 And A Half Man’, and demanded three million dollars per episode. CBS responded by cancelling the show (their most popular show!) before the end of the season. Following the cancellation, Sheen gave a number of quotable interviews and his rise to Internet meme-dom began. Click here to check out Sheen’s Good Morning America interview, which has been viewed over 4 million times to get a taste of the crazy.
Sheen’s quotes from his interviews, particularly the GMA interview, have inspired a huge number of parodies, remixes and original songs. Check out one of my personal favorites below, The Charlie Sheen Quotes Song.

But, as you are probably already aware, the Charlie Sheen phenomenon really started taking off when Sheen joined Twitter last week. He shot past the million-follower mark in 25 hours, breaking his first Guinness Record, and this morning he shot past the 2 million mark, breaking his second.

Over the weekend Sheen launched his Web show, Sheen’s-Korner, and within days the show hit 1 million views. Haven’t seen it yet? Check it out below.

So as you can see, Charlie Sheen is certainly Winning a lot for someone who just lost his job (as the highest-paid actor on television) and is currently losing his marbles quite publicly. And while I do still find some of the whole Sheen trend amusing (for instance, his recent series of tweets that said, “The Tiger of the world have issued an apology to Charlie Sheen. In a written statement; “Please forgive us for being such blatant imposters. Clearly you, Mr. Sheen, have the only real tiger blood in the known universe.””), I have to admit that I think it’s starting to get a little old, not to mention a little bit depressing. Watching someone lose his marbles is only funny to a point, you know?
At first I was caught up in the whole ridiculousness of the Sheen meme–I mean, the words that come out of this guys mouth are insane and amazing! But where can he go from here? It’s sort of like the Old Spice guy, who innovated advertising with his response campaign and just can’t seem to bring back the same amazing buzz from last year, or the Double Rainbow guy who only got so far with his “double” jokes (double rainbow, double cheeseburger, double down). Eventually Charlie Sheen, #Winning and #TigerBlood are going to stop trending, but when? Or maybe, like Old Spice used to do, Charlie Sheen will come out with something new to surprise us all and keep the buzz going.
What do you think is going to happen, and how are you feeling about Charlie Sheen? Are you still on the Sheen train, or ready for this buzz to die down already?
