TNR‘s Porno Adventure

With The New Republic‘s recent decision to publish bi-weekly and reduce their page count, one might think that they need to come up with a few tricks to garner publicity. Enter New Republic assistant managing editor Britt Peterson and a column she wrote for TNR about appearing as an extra in an alt.porn film. Peterson’s column is behind a subscription wall, but here’s the experience in her own words:

The scene I graced was actually one of the tamer ones in The Fold (secretly, I was hoping to be cast in the hot tub scene—but no such luck). Along with about 20 other people, I played an anonymous colleague of Rachel Campanello (a feisty beat reporter for Gaming Babes magazine) at a press conference convened by evil corporate CEO Avery Ferguson to announce his eponymous company’s production of a time-travel machine. Following this scene was another in which Stephanie Blommaert, a scheming Ferguson exec, coaxes Jack Fisher, the company’s v.p. and a secret panty fetishist, into resigning by teasing him with her underwear.

The best part? TNR‘s Web department was kind enough to put clips of the movie Peterson appeared in online. Stay classy, TNR.
