Time To Ask For That Raise? Maybe

A third of employers are open to negotiating salary raises for their employees in 2011, a survey from CareerBuilder finds. And if you’re changing jobs, the news is even better: half of employers will listen to negotiation requests from new hires in the coming year.

“While it is undoubtedly an employer’s market, many recognize the added responsibility workers have had to shoulder without the added pay,” Rosemary Haefner, Vice President of Human Resources at CareerBuilder, said in a statement.

The best ways, companies said, to secure that raise are to highlight specific results you achieved, ask for what you want instead of something vague, and be prepared with a history of your performance reviews.

Of course none of this will help if your company’s frozen salaries.
