Time Inc. Staffers Nervous About Move

Moving day could bring layoffs.

TimeLifeBuildingRockCenter_articleboxStaffers at Time Inc. are worried that more layoffs are coming ahead of the company’s move from the Time & Life Building to Brookfield Place in Battery Park.

Brands are expected to begin the move around October, with Real Simple and other lifestyle titles going first. People, Sports Illustrated and Time will move last.

The nervousness among staff was only compounded by a recent report that Time Inc. could cut about 900 people and still receive a $7 million grant from the World Trade Center Job Creation & Retention Program.

If that’s not enough to keep everyone worried, when The New York Post asked Time Inc. about possible cuts, a spokesperson replied, “As part of our ongoing transformation, we are always looking at ways to work smarter and to operate more efficiently.” Yikes.
