TikTok: Here's How to Add an Effect to a Video Before You Record

Change the look of clips

Did you know that TikTok allows you to add a variety of “effects,” or lenses, to your videos before you record them? Our guide will show you how this works. Note: While you can also add effects to your videos after you record them, this guide is focused on the process of adding an effect before you record (the processes are different).

Note: These screenshots were captured in the TikTok application on iOS.

Step 1: On the TikTok camera screen, tap “Effects” in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Tap one of the effects in the “Trending” section to preview it, or tap one of the categories at the top of the Effects menu to view different options.
