Tiger Woods Drives Web Traffic on PGATour.com

Tiger Woods comeback tour may have experienced a temporary setback, but the legendary golfer has already proven he can draw a crowd online.

Boosted by Woods first appearance in a tournament since last June’s U.S. Open, PGATour.com enjoyed record traffic this past Wednesday (Feb. 25). According to Turner Sports, which co-produces the site, coverage of the Accenture Match Play Championship generated 2.5 million video views in one day.

The site also drew a million unique users on Wednesday, the second largest one-day audience for PGATour.com since it attracted 1.5 million uniques in June of 2008 for Woods’ last event (following that tournament win, Woods underwent knee surgery that kept him off golf courses until this week; Woods was eliminated from the Accenture event on Thursday).

Turner officials said that PGATour.com also recorded a whopping 24 million page views on Wednesday, an increase of 119 percent versus the opening day of the Accenture Match Play last year.  As part of the site’s comprehensive coverage, it featured a Tiger Returns microsite to promote the much-watched comeback.
